MAC Address Converter
v2.5.2
Lightweight Windows tray utility for converting MAC addresses between 12 formats — with a global hotkey, auto-cycling, and IEEE OUI vendor lookup. No admin rights required.
System requirements: Windows 7 or later.
What it does
- Cycles through 12 MAC address formats with one keystroke (default Alt+Shift+M) — including space-separated detection
- OUI vendor lookup against the IEEE database (~38,900 vendors) — press Enter in the popup
- Runs from the system tray — no admin rights required, and no keyboard hook: plays nicely with Razer Synapse, Logitech G Hub and AutoHotkey
- Dark-themed Settings and About dialogs with persistent preferences
- Optional autostart with Windows (Startup-folder shortcut, no registry writes)
- Configurable hotkey, notification duration, and OUI auto-update interval
- Single-instance enforcement — launching a second copy shows a notification and exits cleanly
- Atomic settings & OUI writes with corrupt-file recovery
- Update check on launch — prompts you when a new version is available (new in v2.5.0)
- Works on corporate networks with TLS-intercepting proxies (Zscaler, Palo Alto, FortiGate, etc.) (since v2.4.3)
What's new in v2.5.2
- Fixed: Razer Synapse shortcuts and macros breaking while the app runs. The hotkey used a low-level keyboard hook that saw every keystroke on the machine; when the app was busy, input from tools like Synapse was delayed or dropped. It now uses Windows' native
RegisterHotKey— no hook at all. - If your chosen hotkey is already taken by another app, you now get a notification instead of a silent failure.
v2.5.1
- Two new format detections — space-separated MACs (
aa bb cc dd ee ff, detection only) and 4-4-4 dash (AABB-CCDD-EEFF, also added as new conversion outputs). Cycle grew from 10 to 12 formats. - Fixed double-launch at Windows startup — users who upgraded from a pre-v2.4.0 install had two Startup-folder shortcuts (a legacy
MAC Address Converter.lnkand the newMAC-Converter.lnk) both firing at boot. The installer now wipes the legacy filename via[InstallDelete], and the app sweeps known legacy filenames on every launch as belt-and-suspenders.
Earlier highlights
- v2.5.0 — startup update check (this prompt that brought you to v2.5.1).
- v2.4.3 —
truststoreintegration so the in-app OUI download works on corporate networks with TLS-intercepting proxies (Zscaler, FortiGate, etc.). - v2.4.2 — fixed the Enter-to-vendor-lookup focus regression introduced by the v2.4.0 security improvements.
- v2.4.0 — closed all 37 findings from a full security audit; atomic writes, single-instance enforcement, real
.icoicon, no global keyboard hook.
System requirements
- Windows 7 or later (Windows 10/11 recommended)
- No admin rights required
- ~50 MB disk space
- Internet connection for initial OUI database download (~3.5 MB)
